Not that it has too much to do with Snatcher, other than the fact that the guy who played the main character's voice in the English Dub of it is playing the main character's voice in my new film (Jeff Lupetin, he was my Voice Acting for Animation teacher back in College, and he volunteered his voice to the project, along with Kevin Czarnecki, who is right here on Newgrounds as Ebonyte and was ALSO in my VAFA class, and his friend Katelyn Foley.)

Its a stylized Noire about a hard on the bottle Detective who has to find a devious dame's Ruby Heart. If you don't know the Tournament of Flash Animators (TOFA), its a tournament where Flash Animators face off against each other. Basically, you're given a theme (this Round's theme is "Lost and Found", hence "Noire") and you have a limited amount of weeks to animate to that theme (in this case I had 4 weeks, but 2 weeks have already gone by, so I have 2 weeks left now.) Its being hosted by Newgrounds this year, and you may have already seen one of my entries for the Open Round (Who Wants to Create a Game Show?!?!?). Theres a prize too by the way (ALOT of money, a t-shirt, an interview, Adobe Products, etc.)

You can check out a screenshot below, and learn more about it (and see more screen shots) on my website at www.DaveBrunoAnimation.com (or my Facebook Fanpage, which you can get to from the Biography section of my site.)

Check it out! Expect to see it around June 9th!

Played Hideo Kojima's game "Snatcher"? Then you'll love my new Film!

Hey alright!

So thanks to last week being horrible, I'm kind of starting late. Thankfully there isn't too much hard animation in my next piece. Its going to be called "Vic Aces in 'Lost Heart, Found Danger'", and its a stylized Noire story about a straight talking detective who helps a devilish dame find her missing heirloom, the Ruby Heart.

So far the Voice Actors are a little in the air. I have my main go to guy Kevin Czarnecki playing at least 1, MAYBE two roles. I'll be playing one small voice role, and there is a possibility that my main character, Vic Aces, MAY be played by my Voice Acting for Animation Teacher Jeff Lupetin, who you may know as the main character in Hideo Kojima's game "Snatcher". Gigi is a mystery, but it seems like Kevin may have a person he can get, so I'm not too worried about it. Kevin has basically become my "Voice Casting Director" for future projects like this.

All in all, I hope I can kick this thing in the ass!

So I didn't get that job I wanted. Which really sucks, because I would have been able to do everything Ive wanted with it, on top of learn how to become a better artist. I don't blame the company for anything, they're just doing their job and picking the best candidate, and I simply wasn't it this time. I'm still friends with everyone there and have no hard feelings towards any of them. It just sucks for me because Ive been jobless for 5 months now (with the exception of the odd Freelance job with Calabash here and there.)

To add insult to injury, when I got that rejection letter I decided to apply at 5 more places... and within 40 minutes was shot down by 3 of them. Today I woke up and was rejected by another. I'm vaguely beginning to think that its literally impossible to get a job! lol. At the rate it's going, I've just decided ANY job will do so long as it pays good enough for me to live in the city. But even that is hard because I'm too overqualified for those jobs. So I'm stuck in a limbo I cant seem to get out of.

The good news (for you at least) is that now Id have more time to spend on TOFA, both daily and weekly as they have updated how many weeks you get to work on each entry. My next one, (if I can actually get a script finalized for it.) is a stylized, action packed, cool Noire story. In theory its short, like maybe a minute to a minute and a half long. Hopefully I can pump out at least a script by the end of the day. Haven't really been in a good mood lately so thats why I'm lagging behind.

Heres to hoping I pump out something cool and get a job eventually!

Its lookin' GOOD! Here is a "Pencil Test" from one scene:

TOFA Open Round Host Test

This morning I was worried I would've be able to finish in time, but thanks to some Edits to the script I was able to cut down time and also enhance a joke while also lowering animation. I believe now the two hardest scenes are done, its all down hill from here and I still have a week and a half.

One other note, this animation has THE MOST cameos out of any of my animations. And by cameos, I mean guest appearances from my friends. Yeah the three main characters are 3 of my best friends, but the background characters are all friends as well (including my lovely girlfriend, who you may have scene in "One Wish Upon a Star"). There is only one made up person in this entire thing, and he is fairly obvious to point out.

All in all, Im having a blast, and I hope you do too when you see the finished work.

Hey guys!

So the Groupon and Training U 24/7 Jobs fell through! So it turns out I have one last bastion of hope for a job, which is looking up actually as I just got a new e-mail from their HR department asking for my portfolio. Otherwise I SUPER FREE! So I will be participating in TOFA this year! Me and my friends are already working on a script that pays homage to a video they made way back in High School. I hope to have that done by tonight so that I can start storyboarding it (or at least some of it.) Regardless, see ya in the movies!

Hey guys!

So I've been super busy lately! I'm bouncing between 2 Freelance jobs, one of them involving commercials for Trix products and the other involving a short that will be pitched to Nickelodian and Film Festivals. On top of that, there's a stunning chance that I may be hired on to a job soon (last e-mail I got was "Were hiring immediately, are you still available/interested?". Its also a Flash Animation job right here in Chicago so thats nice! Not as glamorous as the freelance I'm doing as it involves animating tutorials about like... gas stoves and stuff, but still an animation job none the less.), as well as a big chance that if that falls through, Groupon may be hiring me for one of two positions.

How does this effect you, the viewer? Well, there MAY be a chance that my workload may be too great for me to participate in TOFA this year. I'm going to try my damnedest, but the possibility is still there. I definitely WANT to do it, as it boosted my demo reel tremendously last year, as well as it being loads of fun (and hell! I won like $130 and second place too!). And I especially want to do it because I believe I have grown since last year's tournament, and would like to test my mettle.

Just tossing it out there! Hope to participate on Monday!

Hey guys!

I've noticed alot of people mention my stuff looks like Eddsworld stuff (well... Ive gotten two comments about it... but still!) Let me clear this up right now, I like Eddsworld stuff, he's really great, and while I see the similarities in our work, it is merely coincidence. If anything, I got my style from a group Animation project I did in College, as well as a little work on a Lucky Charms commercial (and some of my High School Anime days inspiration lol). I actually hadnt seen Edds stuff until about 6 months ago (Im not really savvy with who's popular in the Flash world, something I hope to remedy with having a Newgrounds account! lol).

...also, my characters have noses lol.

Just thought that needed some clearing up. Edd, you keep rocking! Me!... Keep rocking too I guess! lol

Hey guys!

First off, what an honor to have "One Wish Upon a Star" on the front page! I've been visiting Newgrounds since I was about 12 years old or so, and never did I think I'd be one of the big boys on the front page! Im 23 now, and this is just super cool!

That out of the way, there seems to be some confusion about my entries recently and how they apply to TOFA. The 3 entries I have up ("One Wish Upon a Star", "Totaled" and "Mind Over Feet") were all entries to LAST YEAR's (2010) TOFA, not being submitted for this year. That being said, I WILL be entering TOFA again this year, as I won Second Place last year and have learned much over the year. So for now I am done uploading work so that I may better prepare for the coming battle. If you would like to see more of my Non Flash stuff, check out my links on my previous journal entry, especially my Facebook Fan Page which I update alot.

Hope that clears things up! See you all again on the 25th!

Hey!

I finally made one of these crazy Newgrounds accounts! Although Ive been watching for years now, I uploaded my stuff on so many other things that I never considered Newgrounds before, simply because I dont update that much. All that changed when I heard TOFA was coming here. I was the Second Place winner for the 2010 tournament on ABS.com, so of course Im giving it a second shot this year.
