ScaredyDave's News

My last post I made was when I was about in the middle of my unemployment phase, so I figured I would update everyone that I have landed a NEW full time job at IGT as an Online Game Artist! Ill be making cool art and translating existing art for IGT's online slot machines. Americans wont be able to see this due to Online Gambling being illegal in the US, but European viewers and such will get to enjoy wasting (or making) money off of these games Ill be working on!

If you know me, or you've looked at my resume, you'll know that this is actually the second Slot Machine company I've worked for in my life. Right out of college I worked for WMS Gaming, who you may know used to be Williams Gaming (they made pinball machines at first and then made a little game studio you used to know as Midway Games, who then were bought by Warner Bros and are now called Netherealm Studios. Williams changed their name to WMS Gaming when they got into the slot machine business after Pinball and arcades started dying off. Little history for your face.) This means I've successfully gone from Gambling to Jesus and back to Gambling again (Jesus being my 2 years at Lightside Games, a Christian Gaming company.)

I must say Im so happy to be back in the Gambling industry. Slot Machines are incredibly inventive these days, its not just "pull lever, receive/lose money" anymore. We have a game at IGT that when a few symbols line up, you get to essentially play a level of Star Fox to earn more points towards your score, thus getting more money. THATS how cool some of these games are! I love slot machines because with other types of gaming, most apparent in iOS or Facebook Social Gaming, you get a lot of clones and people just taking whats popular and redoing it again. This happens in Social Gaming a lot because its still such a new industry, its not fully regulated the way it should be yet. Slot machines have been around longer than televisions though, so now you see people getting REALLY creative on how to take such a basic core concept ("pull lever, lose/receive money") and making it more engaging to the player, and more fun for non gamblers.

So thats it, Im a happy camper again and feeling financially stable. I did A LOT to make my website and work more presentable, so if you want to see a lot of new content from me, check out my website or my Youtube.

Otherwise the new Reincarnation game is looking great! I saw Chris posted some cleaned up animation that I had made, and it was a blast to work on. Check out "Reincarnation: The Root of All Evil" when it launches on multiple platforms sometime!

Catch ya later, Newgrounds,

Check out my website! I just finished adding EVERYTHING Ive made at Lightside Games for the past 2 years to the Game Work section of my site. Unfortunately, Lightside ran into a bit of financial trouble, and lay offs happened, me being one of them. So for now Im pursuing new ventures as far as my career goes. Im still working with Chris on Reincarnation in the meantime, but otherwise I need a job! Haha, so if anyone has any leads to any Game Artist jobs and feels like sending them my way, Id be super happy about it.

But if you want to see all the cutscenes I created at Lightside Games or all the In-Game animations and assets I've created in the past two years, check out my website at www.DaveBrunoAnimation.com.

Heres a picture of Ash I painted recently for your troubles, loved the Evil Dead remake!

So remember how a few weeks ago I posted about wanting to make MORE games in my spare time? Well I am! I am now officially help Chris make his latest Reincarnation game for iOS and other platforms! I do rough animation and storyboards and help with cutscenes and in game stuff, so super cool!

I still also make games at Lightside Games! We just released our newest game based off of the tv show "The Bible" on the History Channel. Its called "Light the Way: The Bible" and its a hidden object game on facebook (and soon iOS). You can check it out HERE

Otherwise Ive been making my website super cool, and now you can see some of the in-game animations I made for Journey of Jesus. Wanna see Lucifer transform into Satan? Or some dude choke another dude comically? You can now on my site! I also made this new caricature version of me as not only did I find it high time I made a new, clean update, but this one is more in tune with what I want to do. You can see a much higher quality version of this in the Art section of my website, which is www.DaveBrunoAnimation.com by the way.

Enjoy!

So Disney announced they have no plans in the immediate future for making 2D animated films, which leads me to officially announce something a few of you already know. In light of recent events like the PS4 announcement and seeing what the game Destiny by Bungie is doing (Disney shunning 2D had nothing to do with this decision as I made it like a month ago, but this further endorses my mood shift), Ive had a change of heart when it comes to what Id like to do with my future. If you asked me a while ago what my dream job would be, I would have said "An animator at Warner Bros animation!", but that just isn't true anymore.

Ive decided that I would like to learn CG and continue my career in the Game Industry, and to one day work on a game that all of you would pre order for a console system. Ive worked in the Game Industry for a few years now (WMS Gaming and Lightside Games, yeah they aren't for consoles, but they are still Games and thus are definitely considered part of the Game Industry and are acknowledged as such) and I can honestly say I really enjoy animating and creating art for video games more than I enjoyed making animations. Its fast paced and ever changing, and I like that.

So yeah, just thought you all should know. Doesn't mean I'VE sworn off 2D animation, I would still like to animate fun shorts in my spare time, but Im not striving to get a career doing it anymore. Id also still like to animate in 2D for games if I could, I just figured learning CG would help me get jobs that work on Console games.

That being said,I currently want to help make a game with someone on the side. Like if anyone needs a 2D animator/artist for their game and they want to pitch their idea to me, Id be happy to think it over and help out. I use Flash CS6 mainly so if you need an artist that uses that for your game, feel free to ask me. If youd like to see my game work, check out my website at www.DaveBrunoAnimation.com. I also have some really cool ideas for games to make, but Im thinking of keeping those to myself until the right opportunity arises. I like working on cartoonier stuff, preferably non pixel art but Im willing to make exceptions if necessary. Something very simple to start out I think as I already have a full time job making a complex game for Facebook.

And there you have it! Give me an email or a PM if youre interested!

Hey everyone!

If anyone was wondering what I've been doing the past month now that TOFA is over, I've actually been busy! I started painting the picture you see below of my Pathfinder character so that I could get used to using my Cintiq 21UX I bought with the TOFA prize money. But more recently and importantly, I actually just landed a job! I'll be moving out to California in about a month or so, but I'm telecommuting until then. I'll be a Junior Artist at Hexify gaming, they make Facebook Social games, their most recent one being "The Journey of Moses". Just updating anyone who was curious, hopefully someday Ill be able to post more animations here!
