Cute! It was good but...

As far as I know, the American version of this at least (I'm not sure where you're from) you missed the part where the first 2 pigs just wanted to build there houses quick and the last pig took the time to make his out of brick, hence making the moral something along the lines of "if you take the time to put effort into something, the rewards are well worth it!". You basically just mentioned what they built their houses out of, but not why.

That aside though (and even with it missing) this is still very enjoyable and fun! I love the clean lines and smooth animations, the Sepia Tone and music giving it an old timey film style, yet adding a slightly new age twist with the movements and details. I like the idea of a virtual pop up book, but instead of the pictures popping up, they are moving instead. I hope you'll make more of these as they are adorable, and hell, a fun way to show your kids an old classic. Very well done sir!

marsonNG responds:

Yeah the morals of the story aren't very clear in this because we were meant to just animate the basic story and so I guess I didn't Put much effort into the actual telling of the story. any way thanks 4 a good review.

DUDE!

For only having really 4 days to devote to this, you rocked it! I'd definitely recommend coming back to this later to put all the little intricacies you wanted into it. The colors were cool and your crazy art style and camera angles were definitely in full effect here. Great job for what you had man!

Had me hooked!...But...

The ending kind of took away from it for me. You had this wonderful set up of everyday life for this Fantasy World, and I guess I was just expecting some kind of moral or at least the tone to stay the same throughout. Now, the ending wasn't bad, not in the least, I was just extremely caught off guard by it and it's randomness. I'm sure your intention was to catch people off guard with this gag, but I believe the pacing wasn't correct for it. I believe there actually needed to be LESS set up in order for this gag to work. As it stands right now, it's random, which works for some people and you can totally get away with it, but with proper timing and maybe a little more follow through, it can be comic gold. (Also, the Spock thing through it right off the deep end of randomness, which fits for its timing now.)

With the exception of my hopes being slightly shot down, the animation was great! The line quality could have used some work here and there, but you totally get it and I highly encourage you to do more!

PsychoSpider responds:

thanks for the helpful feedback! I know some of the line quality is off, I kinda slacked off there. my first BIG thing to animate. And yeah, I knew something was off, just couldnt put my finger on it. I promise next one will be better!

Really Good and Fun!

My one suggestion would be to get rid of the text that says "Hair Flip" only due to the fact that you only use text for that. Either add more text to some sound effects, or get rid of it entirely (not only that, but we understood he was doing that rebellious goth hair flip, we didn't need the text to understand that.) Otherwise fantastic animation! Obviously the text didn't detract enough from the experience (you're still getting a 10!) Just a minor suggestion.

Great Stuff!

Great stuff here man! My personal favorite was the Equality line at the end! You are definitely getting better and better at Flash already. Keep up the great work man!

Hot Damn!

Great artwork here Jake! Holy Hell I'm jealous of your style! You'll be quite the challenge in later rounds, so I look forward to going against you! Good luck man!

Lazymodecomics responds:

Good luck to you too.

Just Great!

You pulled off alot of great stuff here, I really liked how you did your walk cycles and run cycles. Great use of the Muybridge Horse and Rotoscoping on the skateboard scene! You have this nice blend of Frame by Frame and Tweening that works incredibly well for you.

As far as the actual content goes, you pulled it off swimmingly! I've seen far too many people on NG and other sites who stick too closely to what the words say, and their videos come off as far too literal and not very fun when that happens. But you took the lyrics and made me not know what to think of them next, like yeah, the lyrics say "George Washington learned to read and write" but they never mentioned anything about computers which is why the visuals are good. Its like the visuals are one kind of funny and the lyrics are another, and not enough people realize this is what makes a successful music video.

Also, Neophyte needs to relax and learn how to take a joke. I thought it was funny!

VillainousTurtleSLC responds:

Thanks for the thoughtful and positive review man!

Fantastic!

Definitely better than my College projects (please don't say Sophomore of High School, I will feel very lowly and kneel before you like Zod lol). You're movement and use of lighting worked perfectly, nice weight on the characters. Great job overall!

This is awesome!

I really love the way you draw your character's faces. They're cartoony, but you can still take them seriously, something I'm trying to accomplish myself. I'm going to watch the others on your blog now, keep up the great work!

This was Fantastic!

I basically loved everything about this! Seems like a fun project and I cant wait to see more!
