ScaredyDave's News

Posted by ScaredyDave - July 19th, 2014

Hey Guys!

3722374_140580698363_Prologue.png

Scaredy Dave Episode 03's Prologue is up on Youtube! Click here to watch!

Now, dont worry, Newgrounds is still getting Scaredy Dave Episodes, I usually just combine each episode's Prologue and Epilogue into one big episode for Newgrounds though so you may not see it for a while. If you want to see the prologue early youll have to catch them on Youtube, otherwise you can wait the "however long it takes" for the epilogue to get made and see it all in one big chunk!

Otherwise I hope to start the Epilogue soon! Lots and lots of Monsters in the Epilogue, also its pretty fun to boot. I already have the sound done for it and it makes me laugh every time. Hopefully youll get a good chuckle out of it too.

In other news, Im going to San Diego Comic Con next week! First time at SDCC for me so Im excited! That and Ive nailed down a little more of how I want the Scaredy Dave game to work. I wont spoil too much but its more of a Survival Horror game now, but with RPG elements and kind of more akin to Batman Arkham Asylum than to Resident Evil. Hopefully I can pull it off because it should be pretty neat if I can! Im not sure if I posted this before, but here is what the sprite for Dave looks like (I think Im going to go back over this and smooth the lines however, but for the most part this is him.)

Hope you enjoy the episode prologue and Ill catch ya guys later!

Hey guys!

So if anyone remembers Scaredy Dave, Ive kinda taken a break from it for a little bit (sort of, more like I was SEVERELY DISTRACTED by video games.) The show isnt over yet, yes Im working on it, you can view more episodes of the Lets Play portion on Youtube, I also have the Prologue and Epilogue fully boarded and voiced and the sound is all mixed, I just have to animate the darn thing. I have animated pretty much all of the first shot of the Prologue, just need to finish up the mouths and Ill be good to go.

Otherwise, I went to E3! I JUST thought to post it here, kinda late but hey, why not throw it out there. It was a blast! You can view my video I made of it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9K_zu1tau4&list=UUgj0hv-_Bpqlzi5Zir5v-ng

And you can view the photos I took from it here:

Otherwise just wanted to let you guys know Im still alive and Scaredy Dave is still happening. I also mailed a game off to the Game Grumps. It was "Irritating Stick" for the PS1. So if they have an Irritating Stick episode and they thank a Dave Bruno at the beginning, thats me. Dont know if theyll post it or not but there you go if they do!

Catch ya later!

-Dave Bruno

(PS: Heres a Blood Sloth, it appears in the first shot of Episode 03)

Hey everyone!

I FINALLY finished Scaredy Dave Episode 02! You can view it all in one big chunk right here on Newgrounds!

Link here:http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/636218?updated=1

Or you can view it with the Let's Play portion here on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqLwrvOEKnpXu0J_ZLbaWu23BoIWHwP8n

So I figure I may announce this here and now so that no one is surprised in the future. Scaredy Dave wont ALWAYS be told in the style of an Animated Show. Its going to be in a number of different formats. So far, yes, Episodes 1 through 4 will be an animated show, however Episode 5 is planned on being an ACTUAL Game! One that you'll be able to play yourself! I'm using RPG Maker VX Ace and a whole bunch of mods to make it look and feel more attune to what the show looks like (no 8 Bit, more than 4 frames of animation. It will look and feel like the show.). Some episodes may be told in the style of a Motion Comic. In the future I would like episodes to be longer, so some episodes may be a mixture of both Motion Comic AND animation (so that talking sequences can be longer in Motion Comic form and Action Sequences can get the full animation attention they deserve). Basically, its gonna be interesting, but you'll be able to experience all of it on Youtube (and Newgrounds so long as I can get the game on there).

Hey guys!

So the Prologue for Scaredy Dave Episode 02: "Ghosts Gone Wild" is up on Youtube. You can catch it, as well as the entire Let's Play portion of my Paranormal playthrough, on this playlist here. Also, dont fret, once both the Epilogue AND the Prologues are complete for each episode I still post them on Newgrounds. You can usually just catch them in 2 parts on Youtube first.

I am using a Bone Puppet of Dave only for the scenes where Dave is sitting at his computer talking into his webcam. I figure this is much easier and faster to animate, thus allowing me to not only get to the cool actiony/more interesting sequences faster, but to also get content out the door faster. I also like it because now I dont have that weird issue I used to have where Dave's limbs and hands would shrink and grow because Im bad at drawing... Do not worry about the Frame by Frame animation, it's not being fully replaced, its just replaced for those types of scenes because I find them not worth the hassle. (I also kind of prefer how the animation looks with the puppet in these scenes.)

Otherwise Im going to get started on Episode 02's Epilogue very soon! I also have Episode 03: "Home Alone" completely written as well! Its going to be a really fun episode, barely any webcam in it as well! (Truth be told, by Episode 04 I dont think the webcam is in it ever again.)

I also made a Playlist on Youtube for all of the animations played back to back, no Let's Play in between. You can check THAT out here! Otherwise have fun!

Also, for your amusement, here is an awesome painting Im making just for the hell of it! (yes its a parody of the Army of Darkness poster.)

Hey there Spooksters!

Happy New Year! Over my vacation I stopped by a Disc Replay and bought Haunting Ground for PS2. (which is basically the spiritual successor to the Clock Tower franchise due to Capcom buying the IP and RUNNING IT STRAIGHT INTO THE GROUND. I hear Haunting Ground fixes this though and is supposed to be a great game.) So maybe Ill live stream that for the show sometime.

Otherwise, Outlast is going to be what "Scaredy Dave Episode 2: Ghosts Gone Wild" is loosely based on. I have a few important life changes coming up in two weeks, so it may take me a bit to get into the swing of animating Episode 2, but fret not, its planned and its still happening, just have some patience.

But on Outlast, maybe I wont do it? Heres where your suggestions come in. Outlast seemed cool, Ive never played it so it should get some great reactions out of me, however I think its a little too.... mainstream (#hipster). Episode 2 is half written, the general idea of it is this:

After finding out his neighbor doesnt exist, Dave begins to suspect his apartment is haunted. He wants to see what happens when he goes to sleep, so he sets up a camera to record himself, Paranormal Activity style.

Now episodes of Scaredy Dave are loosely based on games I Lets Play on the Youtube channel, either references or some monsters/characters happen in the animated portion. So to keep in theme with the episode, I need to play a game that involves recording/taking pictures of Ghosts or Hauntings. Lesser known games I prefer, they tend to take bigger risks and have more originality to them. I unfortunately can NOT play the game "Paranormal" and here's why:

I already played it and recorded it... Paranormal is a game that HEAVILY relies on it being your first experience through, if you know the scares its not as fun anymore. I DID play through and beat Paranormal once and recorded myself doing so, however the recording is older. My Clock Tower recording was way old too, made waaaayyyyy back in like April 2013, and at that time I had no intention of making this animated show/Lets Play with it, so if you were one of the brave few who watched the Clock Tower Lets Play portions on Youtube, I apologize. It was literally just me and my friends hanging out while I played it. Paranormal is SLIGHTLY more professional than that, however it would be about the same quality. That is why I want to play a brand new game and make a brand new recording, I feel like on Youtube I lost 90% of my audience thanks to the Clock Tower Lets Play and its quality.

IF you guys think I should post my paranormal run through anyway (spoiler alert, I scream like a little bitch once, thats pretty entertaining lol) then I will edit it and throw it up on Youtube, should only be like 2 episodes long anyway because its a really short game. BUT if I do that then I would ALSO put ANOTHER game up alongside it.

Here's a list of games I could think of that involve cameras that I would be willing to try:

  • Outlast
  • Fatal Frame
  • Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly
  • Fatal Frame III: The Tormented (I would like to play this one the most, I played all the Fatal Frames a LONG time ago but this one was my favorite, its been so long that it would feel fresh again because I forgot basically all of it.)
  • Paranormal

Worst case scenario, if you dont like the Lets Play portion, whatever game is picked will also get referenced in the animation portion, so if you like that please still suggest!

Thanks guys! And again, if youd like more updates, like screenshots of the making of the animation or when I Livestream either the game or the making of the animation, please check out the Facebook Fan Page or Twitter!

Keep it spooky!

Happy Holidays from Scaredy Dave!

So now that "Scaredy Dave Episode 1: First Cut" is out, and has over 6,000 views on Newgrounds, what's next for Scaredy Dave?

In the immediate future, there's this Holiday Drawing. Then I go on my Holiday Vacation, in which I'll be away from my computer so I will be unable to make any art or animations.  "What about Episode 2, Dave?!" you shout rather angrily at your cat. Well, that will most likely start next year in January as I get back from my vacation on January 1st. I'm still debating which game to base it around (Either Outlast or Fatal Frame III) so if you'd like to help me make up my damn mind, give a comment on which game you'd prefer for episode 2! Episode 2's script is already half written (the Prologue portion is completely done, its the Epilogue I cant even think of how to start, whatever game I decide to play will probably influence my writing of it) so its under way.

Thanks for your patience! And keep posted on the Fan Page or Twitter for any updates on either my work or horror related things in general! There's also the Youtube Channel that has the Let's Play portion if youre interested in that sort of thing.

Hey there Spooksters!

So I have posted all of the first episode of Scaredy Dave up on Newgrounds! You can find that here:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/629855?updated=1

This is all of the animated portion of the show (both Prologue and Epilogue) strung together in one movie. The Youtube version of the show has the Prologue, 12 episodes of a Let's Play of Clock Tower on the SNES, and then the Epilogue. If youre interested in that, here's the link to the playlist for ALL of Episode 1:

Hey everybody!

So Ive been hard at work on Scaredy Dave, my new show on Youtube. "Whats Scaredy Dave?" you exclaim loudly to the universe, well, funny you should ask, because I just made a Trailer about it that you can watch right here on Newgrounds!

(That.... That link is here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/627641)

It is coming along very nicely, looks really good and moves smoothly with some great artwork. Thats why its taking so damn long! I wanted to be able to post SOMETHING about it by Halloween considering its material, so I whipped up this trailer with what I have done and for you to enjoy.

The Youtube Channel right now is a little sparse, it has the Prologue and all the Let's Plays done for Clock Tower on the SNES, I am hard at work on the Epilogue, which as you can see from stuff in the Trailer is looking pretty action packed. I wanted to bring out the big guns for the Epilogue to get people interested in the show, and boy did I ever!

You can get to the Youtube Channel here:
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgj0hv-_Bpqlzi5Zir5v-ng/

But the main thing for right now Id like to point your attention to is the Livestream. I do Livestreams as I animate the show, and I do cool things while I Livestream, like for instance lately I've been listening to Creepy Pastas (scary stories shared on the internet) while I animate because HALLOWEEN! I also have Livestreamed a couple games I probably wont be turning into Scaredy Dave episodes, so you can check those out there!

The Livestream account is here:
http://new.livestream.com/accounts/3532557

AND last but not least, if youd like a hub of where to go for when the Livestreams happen or when the Youtube channel gets updated, I have your back. Like the Facebook Fanpage!

Facebook Fanpage can be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/ScaredyDave

I hope you have as much fun watching my new show as I do making it. And also, I may be Livestreaming some more TONIGHT, so if you're curious, check it out around, oh, say, 8:00 California time? Otherwise Ill catch ya later Spooksters!

Scaredy Dave Trailer up on Newgrounds!

Posted by ScaredyDave - September 29th, 2013

Hey everybody!

So my new show, Scaredy Dave, a show in which I have an ongoing animated plot about living in an apartment that haunted by numerous video game monsters that also has a Let's Play in between episodes to give context to the animations, is live on Youtube.

Basically the way the show works is that there are animated Prologues and Epilogues, with a Lets Play in between. Right now I have the Prologue and first 10 episodes of the Lets Play up, and I am fast working on the epilogue to HOPEFULLY have it made by Halloween. The prologue is short and funny, but the epilogue is action packed and exciting (I really wanted to hook viewers for the first time.)

I'm not really heavily super advertising it right now because I feel once the Epilogue is made it will be an easier sell, BUT if you want to get a head start and see what the show is all about, then by all means head on over HERE and check it out so far. Otherwise, just making everyone aware of its existence. I'm going to post the Prologue and Epilogue back to back in one animation on Newgrounds once its finished to hopefully get people excited, and even if you don't care for the Lets Play portion, I'm hoping you'll at least enjoy the funny and cool animations.

Also, I'm not really creating this to get famous like Game Grumps status or anything. I'm mainly doing this for myself. I've lately found that I'm not spending my free time the way Id like to, and so I started creating this show as it combines 3 of my favorite hobbies in a productive manner (those hobbies being Video Games, Animation and Video Editing.) If I DO get famous, super cool! If not, oh well, I still had fun making it!

Hope you enjoy! And again, that link is

New Animation and Show up on Youtube! Sneak Peek!

Posted by ScaredyDave - September 7th, 2013

Hey everyone!

So its been a LOOOOOOOOOONG while since Ive posted a new animation that Ive made sheerly for myself or for Newgrounds. Well the wait is over kiddies, because I totally just animated something new! Its short and silly (like... VERY short, but very well made) but I think youll get a kick out of it.

UPDATE: I no longer need suggestions! I have finished adding monsters. Now all I need to do is add the logo that pops up after it gets dark and this short (and by short I mean like barely 10 seconds, but its a purty 10 seconds lol) animation will be complete!

Heres what I have so far:

Full List:
-Necromorph from Dead Space
-Licker from Resident Evil 2
-Capra Demon from Dark Souls
-Boo from Mario
-Slenderman
-The Abomination from Amnesia: Dark Descent
-The Raincoat Killer From Deadly Premonition
-Scissorman from Clock Tower (SNES version)
-Nurse from Silent Hill 2
-Ben Drowned from Majora's Mask Creepy Pasta
-Zombie (any game)
-Head Crab from Half Life
-Velociraptor from Dino Crisis

and here is also a screenshot of the room with all those characters in it.

Woah! I actually animated something new!
